“When the barrel of an aluminum bat strikes a human skull, it makes a sound much like a melon being squished. Like a ripe cantaloupe being dropped on the kitchen floor or against pavement tiles in the park. Add a bone-crunching snap and you will be close to the real thing. Contrary to the sound of a wooden bat, the aluminum emits a tinny reverberation, like a tuning fork being struck. These vibrations hang in the air long after the event, eliciting horror in those that witness it.”

Eclipsed explores how our childhood experiences shape our desires as adults. Trauma and shame can be directed inward and outward as a crushing and killing force. Will we deal with our past in time or will the barrel fall?

Included with Eclipsed is a trilogy of short stories that intertwine different philosophical ideas: a Nietzschean affirmation of life, Descartes’ cogito, and the Socratic method. Follow Iain, a struggling college professor seeking meaning and love while, all around him, different realities collide.
